From Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart to contemporary screenwriting, from the continent to the diaspora, the dynamism of African creators keeps pace with the global transformations of culture. This series will feature an expatriate filmmaker with a unique comedic talent, a Francophone novelist-autobiographer, and a critic whose editorial work at the helm of the premier journal in the field shapes future trends.

Pascal Atuma, a Nigerian actor, comedian, screenwriter, director and producer is the scheduled expatriate filmmaker speaker for this event at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). When we “Golden Icons” asked Pascal on his thoughts with regards to this speech, here is what he had to say.

“My topic is NOLLYWOOD-THE EAGLE OF AFRICAN CINEMA and I feel very blessed, privileged and honored to be mentioned in the same sentence alongside people like “Chinua Achebe” and the other speakers, it is a dream come true to be mentioned amongst this class of great Africans, I am very grateful to God.”

“It is a beautiful thing anytime you get a chance to represent your country, talkless your entire continent in any event, with this one, I am representing our country Nigeria and the entire continent of Africa, it feels really good, I am excited”

“You know the funniest thing about it is that my first audition in Los Angeles as a professional actor was in UCLA back in 2002. I auditioned for a UCLA film graduate (Robert DeoCampo) for a movie called “Accidental Life”, and I booked it, my first film, and now I am going back there to speak as a bonafide expatriate filmmaker and to showcase one of my films “My American Nurse 2″,so I feel like I have come a full circle, and guess what? I have not started the real game yet, but all I can say is “TO GOD BE THE GLORY”
