‘Golden Icons’ is wishing you all a happy new year, and as we can look back to 2012, we acknowledge God and thank him for making it a beautiful and successful year for us – a remarkable and memorable year when the GIAMA AWARDS – a totally outstanding success – was launched, amongst other achievements.

As customary, we always compile our favorite clips over the year, which we always feature in our end of year flashback reminder; and this year, we added a special song by Jodi – 2012 GIAMA Jingle, which was produced by KC Boy.

Our 2012 Golden Icons Flashback video, includes several celebrities from Africa, such as, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Pascal Atuma, Julius Agwu, Basket Mouth, J Martins, Van Vicker, Desmond Elliot, Uche Jombo, Monalisa Chinda, Emem Isong, Nadia Buari, John Okafor aka Mr Ibu, Frank Rajah, Susan Peters, Chigozie Atuanya, Uti Nwachukwu, Alex Ekubo, Belinda Effah, Pascal Atuma, Oscar Atuma, Chet Anaekwe, and many more, including US Based Nigerian-born NFL Player “Amobi Okoye”, and US-based Comedians “Seyi Brown, Wamilele, Femi the Entertainer.

Premiere: I’ll Take My Chances

The much anticipated Lagos Premiere of I’ll Take My Chances was held on the 24th February 2012 and it will go down in history as a superlative amalgam of stars from the movie industry Nollywood & the Music industry.

The premiere drew some of the biggest names in entertainment together as big time musicians mingled with famous actors under the same roof. The roll call read names like Paul Okoye of PSquare, Rugged Man, Faze, Slam etc (who did the musical score for the film) all mingled with Nollywood stars like Monalisa Chinda,Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha, Uche Jombo, Susan Peters, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Mahmoud Alli-Balogun, Segun Arinze, Kunle Afolayan and ofcourse the ‘celebrants’ of the day, Emem Isong & Ini Edo etc. Also present were Director of the movie, Desmond Elliot, lead actor Bryan Okwara, Big Brother winners past & present Uti Nwachukwu & Karen Igho. New Nollywood was well represented with the presence of Uru Eke, Alexx Ekubo, Beverly Naya, O.C.Ukeje, Anthony Monjaro, Chelsea Eze etc.

The setting was authentically African and in keeping with the theme of the movie, ushers were dressed in native Akwa Ibom dance costumes, adding colour & flair to an already lively event! Observers were in for a treat when the lovely Dakore-Egbuson made an entrance! Rarely seen on the Red Carpet these days, her appearance was a pleasant surprise as was the arrival of newly wed Mercy Johnsonand Nollywood ‘Bad Boy’ Jim Iyke! But what caused the biggest commotion of all was the arrival of soulful crooner, Tuface with the latest fiance in town, Annie Macauley! The place almost went berserk! They had to be ushered in through a back entrance and whisked upstairs to the cinema screening room. The MC of the evening was Comedian, A.Y. who had everyone laughing as he introduced and recognized some familiar faces in the House! In what seems to be a Royal Arts trademark,the two halls used for screening were jampacked with many having to make do with standing and some, sitting on the floor! But when the lights deemed and the movie came on, it was all worth it. The crowd loved it! Several times during the production, the audience broke into applause. Though in one of the halls, the screen setting (by Silverbird) was rather dark, it was later rectified and the audience continued to enjoy the movie till it ended in tumultuous applause. Overall, everybody had a great time an left with goodie bags laden with lots of stuff including packs of hair from Noble Hair & Chivita Juice!

Premiere of I’ll Take My chances in Uyo

Another star-studded Red carpet premiere of “I’ll take my chances”, put together by the producers ‘Emem Isong & Ini Edo’ with the support of Akwa Ibom’s State Government.

The list of the A-List actors present included: Richard Mofe Damijo, Ramsey Nouah, Emem Isong, Genevieve Nnaji, Ini Edo, Monalisa Chinda,Nonso Diobi, Desmond Elliot,Ufuoma Ejenobor, Bryan Okwara, Rukky Sanda, Uti Nwachukwu, Uru Eke, Beverly Naya and other stars mingled with government officials and important dignitaries and indegenes in the State. The premiere was being hosted by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency Gov. Godswill Akpabio

‘Damage’ premiere in London

A star studded night at the London premiere of Uche Jombo’s film DAMAGE which took place at the Odeon Cinema, Greenwich, London on the 26th of August 2011. Fans were treated to a lineup of A listers namely Uche Jombo who was first to grace the Red Carpet, followed by Kalu Ikeagwu, Tonto Dikeh, Moses Inwang, Chioma Chukwuka, Emem Isong, Monalisa Chinda, Rukky Sanda, Julie Odia of Wow! magazine, Comedian Princess and others. The film will go on to the following cities in the UK; Coventry, Birmingham and Manchester before heading over to the U.S for the American tour.

City People Honors Emem Isong!

It was no surprise that several “A” list actors gathered together to celebrate 15 years of excellence that Nollywood writer/producer “Emem Isong” had brought to the table. This event was put together by entertainment and lifestyle magazine, City People, led by their Publisher, Mr Seye Kehinde.

The list of stars present at this event included but not limited to; Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Ini Edo, Monalisa Chinda, Uche Jombo, Stephanie Okereke, Stella Damasus, Desmond Elliot, Zik Zulu Okafor, Julius Agwu and many others from the corporate world.

It was indeed a night of jubilation as a number of the top Nollywood stars actually linked the success of their careers to the ingenuity and empowerment provided by Emem Isong, who is a true icon that has made a stunning, remarkable and unmatched contribution to the Nollywood industry.Many of the stars present attested that Emem is the reason why they are where they are today, as she gave them their first break in the industry, and as a result of that, they had to celebrate and honor her with their presence at the event.

London Premiere of BURSTING OUT!

According to the tales of Bola Aduwo of Nollywooduncut.com, The London premiere of ‘Bursting Out’ can simply be expressed in one word. Fantastic!

Fans were thrilled to see the Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel, and Nollywood Diva ‘Genevieve Nnaji’, who both played the lead in the film. Emem Isong, the producer of the film, Susan Peters, Monalisa Chinda were also present at the premiere amongst many other stars.

‘Bursting Out‘ comes out soon on dvd! Go get your copies now! In the meantime, enjoy some first pix from the premiere! More to come later.

Premiere: Memories of my Heart

A few months back, Golden Icons featured an Interview on actress, Ini Edo, and she mentioned one of her movie project that she produced herself, ‘Memories of my Heart’. Well, we are here again to inform you that promotions are on-going, and the movie is set to be premiered next month! ‘Memories of my Heart’ stars Ramsey Nouah, Ini Edo, Uche Jombo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Koffi Adjorlolo, Monalisa Chinda, Desmond Elliot and many others.

Premiere Date: October 15th

Location: 10A Ikoya Avenue, off Macpherson Street, off Bourdillion Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

This movie will also be premiered in the states, so stay tuned, and we will inform you about the U.S premiere.

Ini Edo also known as “Iniobong Edo Ekim” and “Ini Edo-Ehiagwina”, a Nollywood Superstar Diva, also regarded as one of the top / highest paid Nollwood Actresses. In-spite of all the accomplishments, she stays humble and yet, still very ambitious.

She is currently working on the logistics for premiering one of her personal movie projects “Memories of my Heart”. The movie featured Ini Edo, Desmond Elliot, Ramsey Noah, Mona Lisa Chinda and a host of other Intelligent and Vibrant Actors. Preparations to premier this fantastic and mind-blowing movie in Lagos is on-going, and plans are also being made to premiere the movie in some few states within the United States as well.

An Exclusive Interview with Ini Edo by Bode Ojo for Golden ICONS.

GOLDEN ICONS: When did you start acting and what were you doing prior to that?

Ini Edo: I started acting fully in 2003. Prior to that, I was in school.

GOLDEN ICONS: Out of all the Nollwood Actors, I presume you would have featured or co-starred in a movie with someone that you consider a great person to act with. Can you briefly describe who that person is ?..

Ini Edo: I would say Desmond Elliot, cos’ I think he’s a deep actor and he challenges me as a co artiste. There’s also some sort of compatibility and chemistry that makes it seem more natural. He’s a great actor and a good friend.

GOLDEN ICONS: How did you get into acting, and what was your first movie?

Ini Edo: I was invited by a course mate who was already a make-up artiste for an audition since our school was on strike at the time.

The very 1st movie I featured in was “Child of Destiny.

GOLDEN ICONS: Who inspires you, and what are your professional aspirations?

Ini Edo: Professionally, I derive inspirations from ladies like Halle Berry . Charlize Theron.
I aspire to become a world class Actress and a better one at that. I also desire to be able to leave a legacy for younger or aspiring actresses to follow when I eventually decide to retire

GOLDEN ICONS: What is Ini Edo currently up to?

Ini Edo: Right now, I am putting things in place in readiness for the premiere of my movie “Memories of my Heart” in lagos . Thereafter, I will be premiering it around some states within the United States . In addition, I am also preparing for a commercial shoot by a company that just signed me on.

GOLDEN ICONS: Congratulations on your endorsement by Glo!, and how was the whole South Africa experience?

Ini Edo: Thanks Bode, the whole SA experience was a blast. It was very cold at the time we were there, but not withstanding, we had an excellent and memorable time. I mean, I had my best peeps around and we made the best out of the trip; infact, it was like a much needed vacation for us, and it was fun.
