Infra-red satellite images taken earlier in the month (January 2nd) before the Baga massacre (the red cluster below) and after the deadly massacre at Baga village by Boko Haram, shows the wide devastation inflicted by the extremist group on the ‘densely populated’ towns which completely razed down the village during the terror attack.
The massacre which reportedly claimed over 2,500 lives was said to have ‘nearly wiped off the map‘ the Baga village, says Amnesty International. The survivors also described fleeing over dead corpses of people ‘killed like insects’ and they had to completely abandon the village while only returning days later.
This deadly massacre at Baga has generated a lot of criticisms being levied against Nigerian President Jonathan who failed to immediately comment on this unfortunate incident but was quick to commiserate with the French on the Charles Hedo killings. Among those that have publicly condemned President Jonathan include South African youth leader Julius Malema and Hafsat Abiola while Madonna also took to Instagram to bring international awareness to this sad incident.
