65 year-old American actor Samuel L. Jackson recently started a new “challenge” as part of the demonstration against police brutality that has recently affected the United States; an offshoot reaction to the Micheal Brown and Eric Garner‘s murder by police officers. He urges his fellow celebrities to join in this challenge similar to the way they had supported the “Ice Bucket Challenge” this summer and appealed to them to shoot a video singing the song “We ain’t gonna stop, till people are free” and post it to their personal accounts on social media, again, just like a number of them did with the “Ice Bucket Challenge”. In a video posted by Jackson on his Facebook page, he said “All you celebrities out there who poured ice water on your head, here’s a chance to do something else.”
This song begins with the words “I can hear my neighbor cryin’ – I can not breathe“, resembling the last words of Eric Garner when he was subjected to a chokehold by a police officer that eventually led to his death. The full lyrics of the song is provided below:
“I can hear my neighbor cryin’ ‘I can’t breathe’
Now I’m in the struggle and I can’t leave
Calling out the violence of the racist police
We ain’t gonna stop ’til people are free
We ain’t gonna stop ’til people are free”
