The “Presidential Medal of Freedom“, the Nation’s Highest Civilian Honor was awarded to the Oscar-winning actress, Meryl Streep, Singer/Song-writer, Stevie Wonder and 17 others by President Obama at a White House Ceremony a few days ago.
As the president presented the award to Streep, he confirmed he was a die-hard member of the Meryl Streep fan club.
“I love Meryl Streep,” the president is quoted as saying by White House reporter Jennifer Bendery. “Her husband knows I love her. Michelle knows I love her. There’s nothing they can do about it.”
“She’s done it all for her craft,” the President continued. “She’s [even] sung ABBA,” he said, referring to her role in Mamma Mia!. Suggesting that the 2008 musical was not his favorite Streep film, Obama deadpanned, “That’s something.”
Additionally, three civilian activists, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner, who were murdered in Mississippi while working on voter education and registration were among those honored at the event. Surviving family members of the diseased accepted the awards on their behalf.
