Dream Hampton a writer and activist who reportedly worked with Jay Z on his 2010 memoir “Decoded,” tweeted a series of messages on Twitter recently (that were later deleted but were posted by the hip-hop magazine Complex) saying Jay Z and his pop superstar wife, Beyoncé, wrote a “huge check” to support the burgeoning Black Lives Matter movement that is aimed at stopping police brutality.
The tweets seemed to have been sent to defend Jay Z and Beyoncé, who have faced recent accusations from some activists that they have paid only lip service to the cause without tapping into the couple’s estimated $1 billion net worth.
Dream Hampton shared on Twitter:
“When we needed money for bail for Baltimore protestors, I hit Jay up, as I had for Ferguson, [and he] wired tens of thousands in mins.”
