Chris Brown goes down memory lane to revisit his dark past in the new trailer for his forthcoming documentary Welcome to My Life. With a few VIP cameos from Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Mary J Blige and DJ Khaled, the singer/dancer also takes a trip down memory lane to the 2009 incident that changed his career and life.
“Like real-life rock stars,” he says of his relationship to former flame Rihanna. “It was like a fantasy.” Then the 2009 incident happened. “I went from being on top of the world, number one songs and kinda being like America’s sweetheart to being public enemy number one,” says Chris, before adding, “I felt like a monster.”
That year, a then-19-year-old Brown was charged with assault after an argument with his then-girlfriend Rihanna escalated. Brown’s mom, Joyce Hawkins, also makes an appearance, recalling how she felt for her son at the time. “That was the worst day of my life and probably of his life,” she said. “I felt like I was gonna lose my child.” He also offered, “I was thinking about suicide and everything else.”
The teaser ends on a resilient note as Breezy says, “If there was ever a doubt in your mind Chris Brown was done, he’s finished… I wouldn’t bet on it.”
While no release date has been announced, the trailer says Welcome to My Life is “coming soon.”
