Lightning struck a Florida nude beach Wednesday, injuring three people, authorities said as reported by ABC News. The lightning strike was reported at 4:13 p.m., as lifeguards were clearing Haulover Beach in Miami-Dade County.
The victims, all beachgoers, were near the shoreline or in the water at the time of the incident, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. One of the victims was airlifted to a nearby trauma center, while two others sustained non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
So far this year, 22 people across the United States are believed to have died in lightning fatalities, the National Weather Service reported, nearly matching last year’s total number, reported to be 26.
