A touch of music, food galore, and a room filled with beautiful people are the key ingredients for a spectacular event. The hall was decked with balls of folly, courtesy of Adure Events. The eclectic DJ Tunes provided the best of cultural music. The perfect arrangements to set the stage to thank and show appreciation for individuals who give back and contribute to a continent of great hope.
Houston’s very own Nnete, reign as the first lady of the “Madd Hatta Morning Show” from 97.9 The Box hosted the gala effortlessly with a comical presence. Nnete donned the event in a custom made Kachi Design, that added a touch of style. Fashion was definitely in the building and Kachi Designs brought it, with her fierce designs from her ongoing collection. Tina Ike unveiled the 2010 African Professional Journal, which highlighted commentary and news in the community. Culturally Yours International presented a festive dance ensemble and scholarships were presented to four well deserving students.
Interview with Amobi Okoye & Kachi Designs
Many of the guests shared a sense of appreciation for the individuals being honored for their wonderful works in the community. Ms. Black Texas USA, Aisha Deslandes, graced the event with her elegant beauty and voiced her admiration for the recognized guests. Indego Africa was presented with the Community Hero Award for empowering women and partnering with artisans in Rwanda to sustainable long-term solutions to systematic poverty in Africa. Houston Texan, defensive linemen, Amobi Okoye received the Image Award for the mission work in Africa and his efforts across the globe.
The charismatic Chido Nwangwu graciously accepted the Distinguished Professional award for his contribution of the first African owned US based professional newspaper, USAfricaOnline, to keep us informed of the worldly events and people that impact Africa. Dikembe Mutombo was awarded with the Merit Award for his continued efforts and financial contributions for the commune area of Congo. The award presentations were very personal and revealing. AfriPRO Houston recognized a class of fascinating individuals considered to not only be the cream of the crop but they represent and impact Africa in a positive light. Without a doubt, these select individuals have enriched lives beyond all measures.
